It’s official, Andy Richter will be back as Conan’s sidekick. Richter, who first joined Conan O’Brien on Late Night with Conan O’Brien in 1993, left briefly while pursuing a prime-time acting career, came back as Conan’s sidekick when Conan took over The Tonight Show.
Richter had been expected to play a role on “Conan” after being part of the recently concluded “Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour” and previous comments from O’Brien.
“I’m thrilled to be going back to work with Conan, and very excited to starta whole new venture on TBS,” quipped Richter. “However, I am mostly looking forward to getting out of the house again.”
Said O’Brien: “This decision was made without my authority. I will get to the bottom of this.”
I’m excited about the show returning. I hope Conan relies on the same brand of self-deprecating and silly comedy that made him a star to begin with. I really hope he succeeds on TBS.
