Anne Hathaway and James Franco will host the Oscars next year, the Academy has confirmed.
Oscar telecast producers Bruce Cohen and Don Mischer said in a press release Monday:
“James Franco and Anne Hathaway personify the next generation of Hollywood icons — fresh, exciting and multi-talented. We hope to create an Oscar broadcast that will both showcase their incredible talents and entertain the world on February 27. We are completely thrilled that James and Anne will be joining forces with our brilliant creative team to do just that.”
The 83rd annual awards show will air Feb. 27, 2011.
Ok, this sounds like a horrible idea. The only thing that keeps the Academy Awards rolling and not boring is comedic talent. Anne Hathaway and James Franco aren’t names that come to mind when I think of great comedy. I predict this is going to be the worst telecast since David Letterman’s hosting fiasco.
