Dexter Renewed for 6th Season

dexterShowtime has renewed “Dexter” for its sixth season. This is no surprise as Dexter continues to have really strong ratings for the premium cable network. Last Sunday’s episode saw 2.54 million viewers tune in. This season has seen some pretty high profile guest appearances from Julia Stiles, Jonny Lee Miller, and Peter Weller.

The only question is can the writers continue to produce a good show that seems fresh and not stale? At this point, I’m not so sure. Season 4 of Dexter was the best season ever. John Lithgow’s Trinity Killer was great and the death of Dexter’s wife was a great shocking ending to the season.

This season has pretty much been a letdown. It seemed that they are trying to do too much with other story lines (Deb and Quinn, Deb and Laguerta, the new rookie cop that betrayed Deb, Robocop) but at the same time the series seems to drag a bit. Maybe that’s because they are trying to tell so many different stories that the general formula for the show is off. I don’t know. I hope, for the legacy of the show, that season 6 is the last.
