File this under the best news to hit the office all season. Will Ferrell will join the cast of The Office just in time for Steve Carell’s farewell.
Ferrell will appear in a multi-episode arc as an inappropriate branch manager who arrives from the home office. I can only imagine what kind of hilarity will ensue between Ferrell’s character and Carell’s Michael Scott.
Carell announced last year that he would be exiting the series, and it was recently reported that he would be leaving before the season finale, most likely at some point in April.
From TV Line:
“We are proud to continue The Office’s tradition of discovering famous talent,” showrunner Paul Lieberstein told Deadline’s Mike Fleming, tongue planted firmly in cheek, ”and we hope that once America gets a good look at Will, they’ll see what we see — tremendous raw sexuality.”
At least one of Ferrell’s episodes will likely air after Carrell’s swan song in early May to help “create a bridge” between the old and new management, per Deadline.
The two haven’t worked together since Ferrell’s Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy movie.
As we’ve previously reported, Ricky Gervais’ David Brent will appear at the beginning of this week’s episode.
