Norm MacDonald is coming back to TV.
The former SNL cast member and Weekend Update anchor will appear on Comedy Central in a show entitled Sports Show with Norm MacDonald.
Comedy Central has placed an eight-episode order for the show, Kent Alterman, head of original programming and production, announced Wednesday. The new series is scheduled to begin production this month and is slated for an April premiere.
It will feature MacDonald’s comedic take on topical and controversial stories from the sports world and will be taped in front of a live studio audience.
Is it me or does this sound like it’s basically Weekend Update but only with sports? Not that it’s a bad thing, Norm was always good when he was holding down the Weekend Update desk (well, better than Colin Quinn anyway).
The last time I saw Norm on TV was when he roasted Bob Saget. It was one of the most awkward comedic bits in TV history. I’m not sure if it was on purpose (as part of an act) or if he just tanked. He’s either become a genius or lost it completely. Such a fine line. For those of you that missed it, watch it below.
