Showtime has renewed freshman series The Borgias for a second season. The Borgias focuses on the 15th century Spanish family led by Rodrigo Borgia (played by Jeremy Irons). Rodrigo eventually schemed his way to the position of Pope of the Roman Catholic Church. The series focuses on his family (including his long-time mistress and mother of his children, as well as his four children), his new, younger mistress, and his political and religious enemies.

The season premiere of BBC America’s Doctor Who, starring Matt Smith and Karen Gillan, drew record numbers. The show drew 1.28 million viewers to its U.S.-filmed episode, according to Nielsen. In the adults 25-54 demographic, the premiere snagged a 0.92 rating.

Saturday Night Live has locked in The Office funnyman Ed Helms to host the May 14th episode with Paul Simon as the musical guest.

Gangster rap pioneer Ice-T has landed a new reality show on E! titled “Ice Loves Coco.” The series will focus on Ice-T’s life with his wife, model Coco as she pursues new endeavors in her professional career, according to reps for the show.

Californication has tapped Wu-Tang member Robert Fitzgerald Diggs (AKA The RZA) to join the cast in a major recurring role for the show’s 5th season.
