It’s being reported that Peter Falk, star of TV’s Columbo, has died at the age of 83. The statement said that Falk died peacefully at his Beverly Hills, Calif., home on the evening of June 23. Falk had Alzheimer’s disease and advanced dementia that intensified after a series of dental operations in 2007.
Falk created one of TV’s most iconic detectives, Lt. Columbo, in his long-running TV series. He’d politely show up on a case, act aloof and as if he didn’t know what was really going on. Then when the criminal least expected it, Columbo would show back up, acting as polite as ever, and nab the criminal by explaining how there was just one little detail he could not figure out. It was great TV and the character is one that will never be forgotten.
Falk is survived by his wife of 34 years, Shera, and two daughters from a previous marriage.
