Ion Television has acquired the rebroadcast rights to 3 shows from NBCUniversal.
The network bought the right to air the six previous seasons and future seasons of detective series Psych, marking the first time the show has been syndicated on a broadcast network. The deal also includes all eight seasons of Monk and medical drama House. House will air twice a week for a year starting in fall of 2012.
The three series will join Ion’s current lineup of Without a Trace,Criminal Minds and Ghost Whisperer, as well as the Ion original series Flashpoint.
In a statement, Brandon Burgess, CEO of Ion Media Networks, said, “These series fit particularly nicely with our network’s ‘Positively Entertaining’ positioning based on procedural dramas and movies.”
“We applaud Ion Television for recognizing the value in these three award-winning series and we are happy to continue our great relationship with the network,” said Frances Manfredi, executive vp and general sales manager, NBCUniversal Domestic TV Distribution.
All three of these shows are good pickups for the network. Monk is a fantastic show, and I love Pych. House, on the other hand, seems to be on all the time on other channels so I’m not sure how many viewers Ion will pick up during those airings.
