Here’s your surprising news of the day: Ted Danson has joined CSI as the replacement for departing Laurence Fishburne.
Ted Danson will play the new CSI supervisor for the grave shift after heading the crime lab in Portland. He comes to the team as it is still grappling with the professional and personal fallout from last season’s take-down of serial killer Nate Haskell.
“From the moment we all started talking about the role, it was clear [Ted] couldn’t be more perfect,” says CSI executive producer Don McGill. “Intelligence, wit, warmth, depth of character and emotion, he brings it all. And now he’ll have to bring latex gloves, too.”
CSI launches its new season on September 21, in the new time slot of Wednesdays at 10/9c.
What does this mean for his wonderful character George Christopher on Bored to Death? Danson will still appear as a series regular on that show as well.
Personally, I’m a huge fan of Danson. He was great in Cheers, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and I love him on Bored to Death. This casting is so intriguing that I might actually start watching CSI. This was a brilliant move by the showrunners.
