Breaking: SyFy’s Eureka Canceled; No 6th Season After All

In behind the scenes drama that seems better suited for AMC, it appears SyFy’s Eureka has officially been canceled after all. First the show was canceled, then it wasn’t, then it had 6 additional episodes ordered for a season 6, now it doesn’t.

The 13-episode fifth season that was ordered back in June, which includes a holiday special, is going to be the final season of Eureka. Here is a statement from the network:

“After painstaking consideration, we have had to make the difficult business decision to not order a season six of Eureka. But Eureka is not over yet. There is a new holiday episode this December and 12 stellar episodes set to debut next year, marking its fifth season and six memorable years on Syfy. The 2012 episodes are some of the best we’ve seen, and will bring this great series to a satisfying end. We are very grateful to Bruce Miller and Jaime Paglia, their team of incredible writers, and an amazing cast and crew who have consistently delivered a series we continue to be very proud of. We thank the fans for their support of this show and know they will enjoy its final season in 2012.“

That’s a shame. I’m a fan of the show. It brings just enough cheese, heart, and sci-fi to make it great. Hopefully we’ll see more of the excellent cast in the near future.

Because production on the 5th season hasn’t wrapped (season 4.5 is airing now), the series should receive a proper finale. SyFy would have a lot of pissed of nerds writing them angry tweets if they didn’t allow the show to have a proper finale.

Thanks to everyone who worked on the show for some great TV.

  1. Well another reason to skip SyFy, if not just drop cable altogether. Gee, just can’t get enough ghost chasing and WWE on SyFy. Wait, we still have Psych for now on another channel. When it’s gone too, who needs cable. Got a lot more to say, just not now.

    1. I have a feeling this is Pysch’s last season. With the amount of new programming coming on USA and the fact that Psych is 6 seasons deep, USA is going to want to get it off the air for monetary reasons. Understandable, but still sucks.
