Weekender: Breaking Bad, RJ Berger, Community, and More

After some tense negotiations, Breaking Bad has finally been renewed by AMC. The network renewed the show for a 5th and final season. The season will have 16 episodes, though it’s unclear whether they will air together or in two cycles.

Famed artist Banksy has a TV special airing on the Channel 4 in the UK. He’s created an hour-long special that premiered Saturday night on called The Antics Roadshow, a take off of The Antiques Roadshow, described as ‘Banksy’s ‘incomplete guide to total anarchy’ providing a greatest hits of wayward behavior, sedition and sabotage.”

TNT’s Leverage has been renewed for a 5th season. The 15 episode 5th season will begin airing in the summer of 2012.

Benjamin Bratt will reprise his role as Manny’s dad this fall on Modern Family.

Speaking of Modern Family, EW has a first look at the new Lilly.

Saturday Night Live will have its season premiere on September 24th. The host will be Alec Baldwin with Radiohead as a musical guest.

MTV has canceled the sophomore teen series The Hard Times of R.J. Berger. The season launched to great numbers (3.1 million) but by the time the season finale aired, the total viewership shrunk to under a million.

Kellie Pickler will guest star on an episode of 90210. She will play the country-singing cousin of local Justin Deeley’s Austin.

Oona Chaplin, the granddaughter of iconic comedian Charlie Chaplin, has been cast in Game of Thrones season 2 as Jeyne.

Jimmi Simpson will guest star on How I Met Your Mother this fall, playing Pete Votto, a pal of Jason Segel’s Marshall.

Mel Rodriguez will be keeping the Greendale Community College campus safe in several episodes of NBC’s Community. “Sergeant” Nuñez (as he’s so affectionately dubbed) is said to take his job guarding Greendale über-seriously — so much so that he fancies himself more SWAT Team member, less college security guy, according to TV Line.
