Harry Morgan, best known for his role as Colonel Sherman T. Potter on M*A*S*H died today. He was 96 years old.
Morgan appeared in more than 100 movies, including High Noon, Inherit the Wind and How the West Was Won. His most famous roles were that of Officer Bill Gannon in the late-’60s Dragnet update and Colonel Potter on M*A*S*H.
Morgan joined the cast of M*A*S*H when McLean Stevenson left the show. After guest starring on the show (as a different character), Morgan was brought back to play the role of leader of the 4077th when Stevenson’s Colonel Break received his orders to go home.
When asked about his part on the critically acclaimed Korean War set sitcom Morgan stated, “I think it’s the best part I ever had.” Morgan won an Emmy for his role and even starred in a short-lived spinoff entitled After MASH.
